The most successful people learn something new each day. Knowledge is endless and personal growth is continuous. Always seek more. When you choose to focus on growing yourself, it’s incredible what you are capable of doing.
There are so many inspirational and impactful books out there, but these 5 books have inspired and impacted me the most. I believe anyone and everyone should read these books. They are powerful, eye opening, and will teach you a variety of necessary skills in order to achieve long-term success in today’s world. I have provided a brief summary and personal analysis of each book, as well as the value I received from them.
1) The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People | Stephen Covey
This book truly changed my life. It altered the way I viewed my values, principles and goals. Stephen Covey takes you step by step into understanding the value of focusing on your core center. Once you understand what you value, you can then establish goals for yourself and WHY you want to achieve each goal.
Covey also gives examples from his life about the value of being ‘principle centered’. He not only gives examples from his own personal family life, but also from friends and business relationships. Covey makes this book tough to set down. I was excited to pick it back up and read another chapter which taught another essential life lesson.
This book is a pure inspiration. It will help give you true direction for a meaningful, inspired and driven future.
2) Emotional Intelligence 2.0 | Travis Bradberry and Jean Greaves
This is another book that deeply impacted my life and depth of understanding. Emotional Intelligence is something that should be focused upon in school. High schools and colleges don’t specifically emphasize why Emotional Intelligence is fundamental for self understanding and overall happiness. This book teaches you the value of understanding yourself as well as others around you. It further teaches you how to understand the entire scope of various situations.
As human beings we are driven by emotion. If you understand Why you feel the way that you feel, and Why you do the things you do, you’ll be able to better manage your emotions and your overall happiness. You’ll also be able to better connect with other people on a deeper level.
The four categories focused upon are: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness and Relationship Management.
3) Mindset: The New Psychology of Success | Carol S. Dweck
Ph. D. Carol Dweck teaches principles about why your mindset is so incredibly important. The way you think ultimately determines your level of success. Being positive and believing that you can accomplish your goals, as well as continuously grow yourself as a person, makes a huge impact on your life.
Dweck also brilliantly describes the difference between a ‘fixed mindset’ and a ‘growth mindset’. A fixed mindset is someone who believes they do not have the ability to improve their skills, even with practice. This mindset is very limiting and overall restrains your personal growth and success. In contrast, someone with a growth mindset can continuously improve who they are, as well as their skill set with a positive and dedicated outlook.
A growth mindset allows us to understand that humans do have the ability to grow and continuously develop personally and professional, no matter how difficult the challenge. If you want it, You Can Do It. Practice, Practice. Be Passionate and Dedicated.
4) Never Eat Alone | Keith Ferrazzi
This book is a true masterpiece. Keith Ferrazzi (along with Tahl Raz) passionately teaches the power of relationships, networking and personal branding.
Ferrazzi tells the story of his life journey and rise to success. He sheds light upon his downfalls, challenges, and accomplishments. Ferazzi puts emphasis on Why People Matter Most. Those that help one another and utilize the power of networking, ultimately get the farthest in the long-run. He also explains the value of being sincere with others, as well as transparent: Show Who You Are~Be Yourself~What you see is what you get.
Being Passionate and goal oriented is another huge key to success. He describes his goal setting process and also explains why writing down your goals is essential. Overall, this book will teach you a variety of necessary skills everyone needs in this transitioning and connected world. Relationships Matter Most.
5) Renegades Write the Rules | Amy Jo Martin
Social Media is one of the most powerful tools for marketing, branding and truly connecting with others. We are now in a very connected and digital age. Our online presence and connection with others is imperative for today’s success. An incredibly powerful book that explains the deep value of social media is titled: Renegades Write the Rules, by Amy Jo Martin.
Martin is one of the most enthusiastic and dedicated entrepreneurs who skillfully utilizes social media. An incredible speaker, motivator and innovator, Martin inspires the world with her social media techniques and sincerity. Showing the person/people ‘behind the brand’ is vital. Humanizing your brand, whether you are a public figure, celebrity or a company, is a crucial factor towards connecting with others. Martin explains, “Social Media is more like the telephone, less like the TV…It is a dialogue more than a monologue.”
Martin utilizes Twitter with over 1.2 million followers, to connect and engage a vast amount of people. She even reaches out to her followers and thanks them. I felt honored to receive a personal DM from Amy Jo, thanking me for my support. Her book will truly open your eyes to the value of social media and how to utilize the power of connectivity.
